Prague - Průhonice
Průhonice, a township originally founded on cattle droves („na průhonech“), was first mentioned in 1187 when a Romanesque church, the oldest part of the today’s Průhonice chateau premises, was consecrated there. After 1885, the count Arnošt Emanuel Sylva Taroucca had the chateau rebuilt in the Czech neo-renaissance style. Along with the reconstruction, the count established a generously-designed park. The basis of the chateau park was the original tre species society, refreshed with newly planted local as well as exotic trees and bushes, bunched in harmonic units. In 1927, the state purchased the entire area. Today, the park is kept by the Institute of Botany of Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic.
