Ivitation to the Žofín Palace
The Historical Prague Evening will take place in the Great Hall of the Žofín Palace.
It was a miller called Novotný who raised the first building on Slovanský Island on the Vltava River in 1835. He could not know then what a significant centre of the Czech culture and society the building will once become. The building was named after the mother of the emperor Franz Joseph I, and bore witness to various events. Famous conductors like Dvořák, Smetana, Liszt, or Tchaikovsky presented their art there. Božena Němcová, Czech female writer of the 19th century, is said to have danced her shoes away at her first ball here. Also the first locomotive engine made in Czech lands is said to have been displayed here.
The palace was reconstructed in 1994 and since then, it has served as a place for concerts, international congresses, representative balls, political and diplomatic meetings, and for meetings of significant industrialists, bankers, or businessmen.
